Tuesday night, 31 people were removed from 19 different committees because they did not fill out their statement of interest forms, after what was supposed to be several warnings. Who those people are, might surprise you . . . there's a few recognizable names in there! Its really embarrassing that one of the members is even on the Ethics Board, where the policy comes from.

Last year I received exactly one "warning" in a broadcast mailing that made it seem as if everyone got the letter whether they had filled out the form or not. I thought that I had, so I ignored what I considered a general reminder. I was bounced.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they do a better job this year, but I doubt it.
Yeah, its frustrating, they say that they bug people about it, but I think it depends upon the committee staff. This year, the clerk actually put it on the agendas of every committee to warn people who hadn't filed. Of course, that only works if the committee actually had a meeting.
ReplyDeleteAs Mayor Dave says, these committees are "fundamentally undemocratic," so why bother being part of such a ugly regime anyway.
ReplyDeleteI know that the Allied Task Force received a number of reminders... including hard copies passed out at meetings, and I'm a bit tiffed that the President of the Allied Neighborhood Association didn't manage to follow through in spite of all kinds of beyond reasonable reminders.
